Serving Our Community Together
A service day is an opportunity to put faith into action and show care for the people and places around us. At Wilmington Christian Fellowship, serving is about more than completing a task: it is a way to share kindness, build relationships and reflect the love of Jesus in practical ways.
Whether we are helping a neighbour, caring for a shared space or supporting people facing a difficult time, every act of service matters. A friendly conversation, a helping hand or a little time given freely can make a real difference.
Everyone can take part
You do not need special skills or experience to get involved. Service days bring people together across ages and backgrounds, with opportunities to contribute in ways that suit different abilities and interests. Working side by side also gives us a chance to get to know one another and strengthen our community.
We hope our service day will be welcoming to all. Come along ready to help, meet others and be part of something positive. If you are unsure what to expect or how you could take part, get in touch with the fellowship for more information.
Small acts, lasting impact
Community service is not only about what we do on one day. It can inspire us to keep looking out for one another throughout the year. By giving our time and attention, we can help create a more connected, caring community.
We look forward to serving together. Everyone is welcome.

Strengthens community connections
A service day brings people together with a shared purpose, helping neighbours meet, work side by side and build friendships. As people contribute their time and skills, they develop a stronger sense of belonging and discover new ways to support one another. These connections can last well beyond the day itself, strengthening the whole community.
Puts faith into action
A service day gives us a practical way to put faith into action. By offering our time, skills and care to others, we can live out the values of kindness, compassion and service taught by Jesus. Simple acts of help can make a meaningful difference and show our neighbours that they are valued and supported.
Makes a practical difference
A service day turns good intentions into practical help. By giving our time and working together, we can support local people, care for shared spaces and respond to everyday needs. Even small tasks can make a noticeable difference, while showing our neighbours that they are valued and not alone.
Welcomes people of all ages
A service day welcomes people of all ages, giving children, young people, adults and older members of the community the chance to take part. Everyone can contribute in a way that suits their abilities, whether by lending a hand, sharing ideas or offering encouragement. Working together across generations helps people build friendships, learn from one another and make a positive difference as a community.
Encourages teamwork
A service day encourages teamwork by bringing people together to work towards a shared goal. As volunteers lend a hand, share ideas and support one another, they build stronger connections and discover how much can be achieved together. Whether the task is large or small, every contribution counts.
Offers a chance to meet others
A service day is a lovely opportunity to meet people and build new friendships. As everyone works towards a shared goal, conversations come naturally, helping people from different ages and backgrounds get to know one another. Whether you are a regular member of the fellowship or joining us for the first time, you can feel part of the community while making a positive difference together.
Inspires ongoing acts of kindness
A service day can inspire kindness that carries on long after the day itself. As people work together and see the difference even small actions can make, they may feel encouraged to keep helping neighbours, supporting local causes and looking out for others in everyday life. In this way, one shared day of service can spark a lasting habit of care throughout the community.
May require a significant time commitment.
A service day can be rewarding, but it may require a significant time commitment. Tasks can take longer than expected, and travel, preparation or staying to clear up may add to the day. This can make it difficult for people with work, family or other commitments to take part, so it is helpful to check the schedule in advance and choose a role that fits the time available.
Outdoor activities can be affected by the weather.
Outdoor activities can be affected by the weather, which may make a service day less comfortable or mean that some plans need to change. Rain, strong winds or cold conditions can make certain tasks difficult, so it is sensible to dress appropriately and have an indoor alternative ready.
Some tasks may be physically demanding.
Some service day tasks may be physically demanding, involving lifting, carrying, standing for long periods or working outdoors. This may not suit everyone, so it is important to choose a role that feels manageable and let the organisers know about any access needs or limitations. There are usually different ways to contribute, and every offer of help is valued.
Volunteers may need to arrange their own transport.
Volunteers may need to arrange their own transport to and from the service day, which could be difficult for those without access to a car or reliable public transport. If this may affect you, please contact the organisers in advance to ask whether a lift or other travel support can be arranged.
A single day cannot address every community need.
A service day can make a valuable difference, but a single day cannot address every need in the community. Challenges such as loneliness, poverty and ongoing support for vulnerable people often require time, consistent care and long-term commitment. It is important to see the day as a starting point: an opportunity to listen, build relationships and find ways to keep supporting one another beyond the event.
